Actinomycosis Only As an Adjunct to Conventional Therapy When the Disease Process Is Refractory to Antibiotics and Surgical Treatment
Actinomycosis is a bacterial infection caused by Actinomyces israelii. Its symptoms include slow growing granulomas that later break down, discharging viscid pus containing minute yellowish granules. The treatment includes prolonged administration of antibiotics (penicillin and tetracycline). Surgical incision and draining of accessible lesions is also helpful.
